Amongst the hundreds of compilations of the prodigious output of the "Chairman of the Board", this one, spanning the later part of FRANK SINATRA's spectacular career, has to be one of the finest ... the already-legendary vocal talent, great songs, top players, with charts by the best arrangers in the business. Many of the tunes are from the period when Sinatra was recording with REPRISE, the record label he founded after leaving Capitol, (to gain more creative control of his own work). Although later sold to Warner, Reprise clearly started as a 'musicians' label': granting artists unprecedented creative freedom and providing resources that allowed them to focus on making the absolute best music possible. This pursuit of perfection continued. A Sinatra recording session - regardless of the material or the era - clearly inspired excellence, from performances through final production. You can hear it on every track in this wonderful collection. It takes a big voice to front a big band. Frank Sinatra did that consistently, with singular panache.
