In the early 1990's, more than 35 years after its purchase of Capitol Records, British conglomerate EMI, waded through the archives and eventually came up with enough material to put together a series of compilations, (recordings going back to the late 1940's), featuring great American songwriters. Most of the vocalists were stars in their own right, too, but not always associated with the numbers performed in this series. It makes for interesting listening. Unquestionable talent: from the songwriting, music and arranging, through vocals and production. There are lots of gems in this treasure trove. The retro-style caricature covers by Robert Risko are classic and sound quality is uniformly excellent - digitally cleaned up and re-mastered from original mono and stereo masters.
Here, then, is the whole 21 volume set, in the order of their original release, which includes the bonus "Happy Holidays" - themed disc, (material likely uncovered during the production of the rest of the series).
